Cire Trudon - Marie Antoinette

Cire Trudon is the world's oldest candle manufacturer, appointed supplier to the
Royal Court of France and later to the Imperial court under Napoleon.
With this rich history in mind, Maison Cire Trudon asked
the Reunion des Musees Nationaux-Grand Palais to grant them the rights
to reproduce in wax some "jewels" from its Molding Workshop.

And so we have this portrait of Marie-Antoinette
(attributed to Brachard), finished to exacting standards and able to be used as a candle,
although most are kept as collectables rather than consumed.

As one of the most famous and controversial women in French History,
Marie-Antoinette was the object of many artistic representations.
Many valuable artworks were destroyed and  disappeared during the French Revolution. Fortunately, this bust has survived the upheavals of time.
